Gastrointestinal helminth parasites of Gallus gallus raised in extensive system in the city of Viçosa, Minas Gerais, Brazil

Extensive rearing systems enable higher occurrence of helminths, which is a hindrance in poultry farming, significantly affecting productivity. A survey was conducted to determine the prevalence gastrointestinal helminths chickens reared extensive system city Vicosa, Minas Gerais, Brazil between December 2017 September 2018. total 5579 specimens were recovered from tracts most animals (81.55% prevalence). Of positive birds, only 41.67% had mixed infections, and these, more than 90% nematodes cestodes co-infections. Three (Ascaridia galli, Heterakis gallinarum, Capillaria sp.), seven (Raillietina tetragona, R. echinobothrida, cesticillus, Choanotaenia infundibulum, Hymenolepis cantaniana, H. carioca Davainea proglottina) two trematodes (Postharmostomum commutatum Echinostoma sp.) species identified. The dominant helminth gallinarum (60.19%), also presented average intensity (35.46 ± 0.65) abundance (21.34 3.01) among all species. tapeworm correspond 42.23% 3.40%. Despite scarcity data Brazilian literature on systems, regional parasitological surveys are important.
